Say what you want, but I thought the game was decent. The issue is whether was it a decent Devil May Cry game, and it's there that I say no.

take a good look at the level design. there are a like 5 textures repeated that compose the whole level...
the only level that do not have this is the first. that sport the SENSATIONAL number of 10 textures.

also polygons are ridiculously low: the game runs at 30 fps and have less poly and worse textures of Ninja Gaiden 2 that is older and runs at 60 fps?
the character design is abysmal, they did not even cared for the monster and just run with the first idea came to the Italian incompetent who did the "pretty pictures", they was too concentrated to design the "new" Dante, for have some flame war to have some sells more.

mechanically is near broken, with most of the fighting engine not polished at all. (they did not cared) and for having like 4 hours of gameplay, of which a good half made of repeating assets it's bloody obvious that the near 4 years of production gone into the 2 hours of cinemas in the game...

2 hours of abysmal, childish, ignorant and badly directed teen dream of the writer.

it is truly the Twilight of the videogames.

I didn't think the gameplay mechanics was that bad, but yeah I definitely didn't like how short it was or how few bosses there were either. The only real good fight was Vergil at the end, but to me it wasn't anything compared to Devil May Cry 3.

Like I said a decent game (that being perhaps between a 7 to 8 out of ten maybe) but not a decent Devil May Cry game.

I really don't know what the hell they were thinking in not only "rebooting" the game but trying to start from the origins of the game. I mean, you only really do that when things aren't going well for you and whatever franchise you got. It's particularly stupid in this case because people didn't like this game, so what's capcom going to do? Make another reboot or origin story? That would be a joke even if it was awesome.

the real answer is: what is the name of the game?

that is what I search from the name.
if it is not a good game with that name then the game is not good at all.
but as I already explained you the game is bad even on his own account.

if I want something else I buy a different title.

DMC is dead. period. I personally won't buy anymore any game in that series.

Hate to say it, but I think I'm sort of at that point for the franchise or really most of the franchises out there (God of War, Halo, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, etc.). Still I'd like to see something with pappy Sparda. After that, it's anyone's guess what they'll do afterwards.

personally if DMC gets an another prequel or past episode I do not know what I will do.
its bloody EASY to continue the story form DMC2. he is in hell, he get out, he do some thing in earth again, end.
I did not take long to do it ([link]) why some people payed for it find it so hard...

most of the devs out there meets to understand the concept of "spiritual successor"... but they are afraid that new ip will not be well received by players...

How can we be lied to about our opinions? I'm a fan of the new game. I will continue to play it, because I enjoy it, and I would play a sequel if one comes out. I'm also a fan of the previous DMC games.
You can't be lied to about subjectivity. You may not like it, and that's fine, but don't tell those of us who do like it that we're being lied to. It doesn't even make sense.

the basic Idea of advertisement.

the first victory of the reboot was to hide all the reboot problem with the character hair.
so they convinced you that all the critic to the game was really an homosexual love to the old character (defined bad).
and that the old games was bad.

if you would used rational thinking you would understand the implication of this, and say "if the old are bad, why the new is any good?"

obviously you did not.

why it is a bad game?
fact is that is is long 6 hours and have 4 hours of gameplay, and that gameplay is roughly 50% obsolete platform (talking about 2000 era platform here) and 50% an mediocre and not deep action combat based on heavenly sword (so again something more based on God of War)
this is enough reason to despise it.

this are bad things where there is the name Devil May Cry on the tin, because DMC is an thigh and deep action game.
you can put any crap around it, but it still have to feel like an DMC.

and it do not feel like it. because it is not.

then obviously there is the unlikable story and bad characters, plot errors and bad writing.

and bad graphics.

so, your "opinion" was built. first, they created to factions, and bought the "media"(the "cool guys") to the "supporting side"(how? exclusives and even money prices and "best journalist awards").
so a bunch these peeps talked high and bloated the game with praises.

after a while (for also NT lack of self control) the new guys started to bash the old games for praise the new one.
this was promoted by Capcom USA, so the old series was in a "stale" and Dante is "ridiculous", words like "anime-like" and "old-emo" started to appear in these so called previews.

they hoped that this would erase the "hate" to the game, but failed.
this only made "fanatics" the two sides.

the game is nothing revolutionary. the game is not even something much good or polished.
Capcom marketing still bought enought to make them give 9 on 10 as vote, with Tameem Antoniades even going out and say: "the reviews under 8 are not official"

the question is why? the game is not that good. ignoring the title(that ask for some elements) the game would only be a 6 on 10 or a 7 on 10...

talking about subjectivity: your avatar is the logo of the reboot "the order". why?

My opinion wasn't built. I don't even read game reviews, I review them for myself. In MY opinion, it still feels like a DMC game. Yes, it was a bit short, but thats not a big deal to me. The old DMC games were lacking a lot. They got boring rather quickly. They weren't bad games, but they were any better than the new one, other than the first, maybe.
I dont see how the graphics are bad, I don't think they are, but even if you think they are, graphics don't make a game. I think the story and character are ok as well. I agree that it was nothing revolutionary, but most games aren't, in fact, very few are. Look at all the first person shooter games that are apperantly "amazing" yet, they are all the same.

As for my avatar, It's that way because 1. I LOVE the game, and 2. I like the logo.
Video games, just like any other hobby, is subjective. Example: I personally don't like Bioshock, but many praise it. I don't think it's a bad game, because I recognize how others can like it, and recognize the it's my opinion, not a fact.
But, many can't do this. Much like music. I love rock and metal, some don't and there for think it's bad, and cant recognize musical talent. I HATE Justin Bieber, but I can recognize that he can sing, he just doesn't preform my taste in music.

I don't mind that you dislike the new DMC, you gave mostly valid reasons, only a few (such as the graphics) I thought were invalid. Most people can't give valid opinions, and I respect you for doing so.
Just for the record, I wasn't ever mad at this post.

well, you have to heard about the game from somewhere, and you surely seen the war, that was already a brain-washing.

they just need to plant and idea and the game was done. flashes do the rest.
I am an advertiser and I know my work.

the graphics are bad. the game runs at 30fps, so they should have a lot more polygons and better texture in the game.
bayonetta runs at 60 fps, and have both better textures, more polygon and even more complex fights.

for example, the levels are just composed of few platforms floating in the skybox, but even that is very low-poly even for 2008 standards.
for example the "under watch" level really have some bad assets, with the building many times being just composed of simple squared entities.

again, the game runs at 30fps, there is no way that those polygons was too heavy for an engine that was used for some freeroaming(APB and wheelman)...
also the continue reusing the same graphical assets, without much care to explain them in the story.

for example, why there is the "corruption"(VERY similar to the one in Alice madness returns and Prince of Persia 2008) even if do not seems to have any other reason to be there except trying to be cool?

also there is heavy texture repetition, with all levels feeling empty and just the same stuff over and over again.

as I said, the game is not good. you can like it, and as far I am concerned DMC is dead and I do not care in the series anymore (not with Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta 2 coming...)
